DALLAS

Dallas, the third-largest city in Texas and the eighth-largest in the United States, is a sophisticated, bustling metropolis that has earned its reputation in the marketplace of the world. With a population of 1.3 million people, the city grew from a little Republic of Texas pioneer outpost in the mid-19th century into a major center for banking, finance, and oil. Nestled in the rolling prairies of north-central Texas, Dallas, the city is known for shiny skyscrapers and soaring suburban homes and its reputation as the top business and leisure destination in Texas.

CLIMATE

Basking in the glow of the nation’s Sun Belt, Dallas is known to have a humid subtropical climate
attracting several immigrants from colder regions for a number of years. The climate in Dallas is generally warm throughout the year, sometimes even during winters. Summers bring with them scorching heat and soaring temperatures. However, the city is prone to tornadoes, hurricanes and storms especially during spring when rainfall is heaviest.

Slick and newly sophisticated Dallas has plenty to entertain visitors with its share of extravagant dining, flourishing hotels, eclectic restaurants, a burgeoning nightlife, pretty prolific alternative music scene and an amazing shopping scenario, all with a tinge of an old world charm. The tourist attractions in Dallas include The Old Red Court House in Dallas, Dallas World Aquarium, Dallas Museum of Art, Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs, Dallas Zoo, Reunion Tower, Fair Park Dallas, and Fountain Place. Other attractions are the many fine museums located in Dallas, Dallas Museum of Art, Pillsbury & Peter Fine Art, and the African American Museum. For golf lovers, the Scotty’s golf park is a must see.

AIRPORT

Dallas is served by two commercial airports: Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) and Dallas Love Field (DAL). The main airport is the DFW, situated in the northern suburbs of Dallas, is the eighth busiest airport in the world. It carries a passenger traffic estimated around 56,030,457 passengers annually.

TRANSPORT

DART (Dallas Area Rapid Transit) is a bus and light rail system that help tourists and locals get around the main downtown area, hotels and restaurants without many hassles. In Dallas, however, a car is still more convenient as the city is very spread out. Apart from the bus services, other means of transport that one can rely on is the light railway system and the electric trolley buses.
